Every business owner knows the importance of advertising if they expect to survive. The Internet is somewhat of a mystery to many off line business owners, but they have probably heard about article marketing. Today article marketing includes a number of strategies. You certainly are going to be writing and submitting articles to article directories both for traffic as well as potential backlinks.

However articles are used in other ways today and this is important if you expect to capture a larger segment of your market. For example every business owner should have a blog and be posting articles into it on a regular basis.

Articles that might have been submitted strictly to article directories can be reworked into shorter blog posts to help you get more out of each one of these individually. Blog articles generally only need to be a couple hundred words to get the point across.

Social media is not going away. Once thought of as trend, sites like MySpace, Facebook and now Twitter have seeped into our everyday lives.

According to the “Social Media Reality Check” conducted by CNW Group and Leger Marketing in 2009, nearly 50 per cent of users surveyed said they access social media tools once a day. It was also reported that over 60 per cent use social media to research products before purchasing, and one-quarter of users said they feel better about an organization that is engaged in social media.
So what does that mean for companies? If you are not online, you may be losing customers.

To anyone who uses Twitter, the word "tweet" is as natural as, well, a bird. But don't expect to see it in The New York Times.

"Someday, 'tweet' may be as common as 'e-mail,' " wrote Phil Corbett, the Times' standards editor, in a memo this week, according to The Awl. But, for now, Corbett has nixed further use of the word -- "outside of ornithological contexts," he wrote.

The Times will stop using the word because "tweet" isn't standard English, "and standard English is what we should use in news articles," Corbett said.

Corbett noted that not everyone uses the micro-blogging site and therefore may not be familiar with what a "tweet" is.
