Proper Keyword Density for Optimal Rankings on
Google, Yahoo, MSN, and Others
By Andy Keeler
Many search engine optimization Specialists pretend to know the proper keyword density to optimize a website for Google, but the truth is that there is no magic keyword density. Some "experts" claim that the optimal keyword density is as low as 2%, while others claim that it is as high as 20%. This disparity can be easily accounted for by the simple fact that keyword density is not a major factor in your websites rankings in the search engine results pages.
In fact, there are a number of reasons not to optimize your website for any specific keyword density. First of all, all the major search engines are constantly working to improve their algorithms to detect unnatural writing within the content of web pages. Google already has code in place that devalues websites with blocks of text that are laden with keywords, and they will only get more sophisticated as time goes on. So optimizing your website now many cause it to get penalized later. Google's genuine goal is to create a system that returns the highest quality websites, because this is the only reason people currently use their service.
So what can you do to ensure that your content is optimized for Google and other major search engines? The best thing you can do is to write text that is intended for your visitors. Pretend like the search engines do not exist, and write sentences that are clear and relate to the topic of your website. Fill your blocks of text with relevant links to other parts of your website wherever possible, and write with good grammar and spelling.
